BREWERY TASTING NOTES:
The Rhumballs Imperial Stout by Amager Bryghus is a tribute to the traditional pastry known as Rhumballs or "Romkugle". The history of rhumballs may be surprising, but it dates back for many years. In Denmark, a clever baker came up with the idea of using leftover cakes and pastries to create a rich and moist dough. After adding cocoa powder, fruit jam, and other ingredients, the dough was formed into small spheres the size of golf balls and decorated with sprinkles. These affordable and satisfying treats quickly became a favorite among children and students. Eventually, a baker infused Caribbean flavors by adding rhum to the recipe, resulting in the beloved rhumball. This unique pastry has a dedicated following and even inspired the National Danish Rhumball Championship, where bakeries from all over the country showcase their best rhumball creations. At 11% alcohol content, these rhumballs are an unparalleled delicacy.
